Add that to being friends with local winemakers and wine shops and the result is invites to some pretty spectacular wine tasting events! Tonight would be a wine paired dinner like no other. We would be tasting 16 different Rosso di Montalcinos and Brunellos that had just been released, paired with amazing dishes at Ristorante Il Loggiato in Cortona. The vendemia (wine harvest) is in full swing in Cortona! In the past few days I’ve had wine tours and the opportunity to visit some of the local wineries and see first hand the wine harvest in full swing. This is Syrah that has been harvested by hand and is waiting to be taken to the winery to be processed. The cassettes are loaded into the back of a waiting tractor that slowly collects the harvested grapes and within an hour heads back to the winery to process the grapes. At the winery the cassettes are unloaded and immediately...

I was invited by my good friends Leuta to see them bottle their wine using a mobile bottling line. Basically a big semi-truck comes to the winery, unloads the entire back container to the ground which then opens up and the bottling line is contained inside. Owner and winemaker Denis Zeni took me on tour of the line while they were bottling their...

It’s rough being a wine blogger. I mean all these dinners and tastings to write about. I’m currently behind in posting all the goings on as I speak! BUT, I wanted to give the inside scoop on one of Cortona’s newest hidden gems and the amazing pairings they are designing. Benvenuto Zaffiro Rosso, a small intimate little wine bar located within Del Brenna Jewellery’s new beautiful showroom underneath Cortona! Being good friends with the owners of Del Brenna as well as the winemaker of the Leuta Wines they want to...

The city of Copenhagen was host to a very special group, our very own Strada dei Vini Cortona on the the 1st and 2nd of March! The local newspaper Politiken spread the word and more than 1500 tickets were sold in advance for the two day event. I think that probably at least a good 200o people attended. The space was ultra modern with the theme being wine, Cortona products and tourism. Of course most people were there for the wine. Not all the Cortona wineries could make the event but there was a quality representation from Leuta,...

Recently a well known wine -o-phile in Italy, Alessandro Rossi, put together a group of winemakers, wine lovers, wine writers and wine experts to blind taste 9 of the best Cabernet Francs from Tuscany. Only one of the wines was from the Cortona D.O.C. area. (important to note since I’m blatantly for home team Cortona D.O.C.!) The end result, Leuta rated 95/100 for the win. It’s no secret I’m a Leuta fan and I am always proclaiming that it is just a matter of time before they are are “discovered” by the rest of...

This Thursday night, October 25, 2012, is our last “degustazione” (wine tasting) dinner of the season! At this point the dinner is over-booked although they are wait-listing people in case there are cancelations. I’ve heard through my peeps that there are a few special surprises in store for those attending and Osteria del Teatro, plans to go quite over the top for the dinner. The winery featured for this last great tasting is an amazing one from Tuscany, the Maremma, Biserno. I had the opportunity to try the Il Pino...
